for the most part, logos will never require this(thank gosh....we are 'touching' ever so slightly with web 2.0/3.0)...BUT, this is so insanely incredible, the skill time involved....WOW

there are some excellent(we've posted here, on designContest) before, tutorials, on the gradient mesh tool....once you have a 'grasp' of this tool, you'll understand more, the wow of this artist

Wow, Fullsail? I wanted to go there, I still get their mailers every now and then. How do you like it?

    >>Sorry I guess that was a bit off topic.

On topic: I've done a bit of 3d modeling, and I agree it's got to be easier. For someone who really knows what they are doing with modeling (not me), this project wouldn't be too difficult. Once you have the materials and lighting set, these days with quad core processors and GL cards, the rendering wouldn't take very long either (In fact you can render out to a vector image anyway). -Not to mention the fact that it can be re-used with great versatility (Different angles, lighting effects, materials, etc.)

I must imagine that even for the "king of the bezier tool" this took an inordinate amount of time to complete. Just beautiful though.

Wow, he's really into that mesh tool man. Amazing illustrator work.
We shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and it's the content that counts, but his website could also use a makeover. Those are some oldfashioned buttons man...

And i agree with that this is done much easier with a 3d app but i also believe this guy is just into Illustrator, Photoshop, sketching and doodling around, he's so passioned about it, he doesn't have the need to learn a 3d program. Like KFC, he knows what to do with Illustrator.

Wow, I feel like crying when I see works like this one!
On of the skills I am currently working on is Illustrator's meshes and right now I am trying to finish a photo realistic picture but it takes ages to work out the details so well...

I'm currently working on a fotorealistic image of a wasp, in xarax (vector) It eats so much time! But this.. this is simply hardcore! I mean the shadows, the ligthning it is sooo compliacated for the eye. This guy is wicked!

That guy is insane! I'm currently attempting to create a sort of photo realistic illustration of a woman, like maxson says, it take so much time! But the finished visual will be satisfying.

    Same thing as ^^

Easier, less time, more options when making this in a 3d program.

    Anyway Impressive!
