Just found this site, and have enjoyed spending some time mulling about - there is real talent on here and it seems a friendly place so thought I'd introduce myself, as you do

My name is Samantha, art grad who moved into web design gradually over about 5 years or so. I've not been a regular at a forum like this before (not with this subject matter in any case) but I really like the concept and think it's really cool

Um... trying to think what else to say about me. Based in the UK, turned 30 at the end of last year (which along with PMT now entitles me to at least two decent bouts of lunacy a month), married with a little boy... addicted to DIY and property shows and about to gut two rooms in my house - bathroom & kitchen (fervently worries where will we cook, whose loo can we use) - to see if I know even nearly as much as I think I do

How do you get on the design team in this place? Is there like a criteria, water torture session or is it invitation only? Just fancied giving you all a laugh my throwing my designs up for some of the contests at some point, but not sure if I've missed something.

Hello, Samantha - and welcome to DC! there's a link to the design team application from the homepage - or just click here . As long as you've met the stated pre-requisites, then your application will be posted for the review committee, and you should have an answer in about a week.

Best of luck wtih your home remodelling! I've done some minor projects - usually after i've seen something on television - and normally while my husband prays that I don't electrocute myself in the process Cant say i've ever gutted a kitchen or a bath though - that's a little too ambitious for me. would love to hear how it turns out though!

As far as competing in the contests - you can compete in any of the contests in the charity forum until you're a member of the design team - at which point you can then enter any of the contests. Feel free to let any of the staff know if you have any questions.

The house... aah, well I consider myself more of a designer, planner, erm..... aesthetic technician than actually PHYSICALLY ripping out the bath etc I'm not sure I trust myself with a drill either..... Would be quite funny but the hubby is great for that kind of thing. He's 6'2 and about 17 stone so he comes in handy for the heavy work - hehe I've been playing on my pc for months working out plans and sourcing marble and stuff.... it will be worth it but I know that by the time I see both rooms gutted I'm going to wish I'd never started
