I think most graphic school uses Adobe packages to teach how to make logo's and also Macromedia is now Adobe so most of the Macromedia programs that are the same as Adobe will disappear but the features that are good will be added to the Adobe package programs.

So in the end you still need to switch over to Illustrator.

pen tool used in many programs are pretty the same. Just some got extra tools or some with more options. Mainly some programs got little to no difference.

from adobe.com you can download tryouts to get the feel with it. Should be very easy and fast to learn if you know photoshop. Its got the same things just no brushes and special layer elements like bevel and embossing.

I've tried firework before. It's okay, but I still prefer to use adobe.
I want to know more about fireworks though.

I've worked with clients who've requested .ai files. Usually, that's what they see from a printer. I started including it. For instance, in logo packs, the .ai file is included in the package.

Ai - i think cause they also got illustrator and probably want to try out other colors by them self. Otherwise I donno. Ai does open automaticly in a pdf viewer if you dont have illustrator.

Eps dont open in pdf. Dont show up in vector in photoshop. Does show up in vector in Indesign.

PDF can't do any then just look and print out.

My sister used Fireworks for logo designs for a bit and loved it. She created some great things with it so I know it has the potential to do great things, but I think programs like Illustrator and Photoshop are simply more common and more versatile.

I usually like to also send an ai file when I send an EPS. It's more of a backup than anything else. Where I work, they kept me on Quark 4 for the longest time, which has a hell of a time using any EPS file made on software within the past five years. So, I kept on having to get different file types from my sources just to make it work. Pain in the backside. Also, EPS files are a lot more corruptable in transfer than AI files. So, I send the AI file as a backup. Most folks who can open an EPS (that I deal with, anyway) are also in a position to open an AI file, in case the EPS doesn't work for whatever reason.

I do have to say that I am a huge fan of Fireworks, though. But, I never really use it in a vector sense. It is, however, an integral part of my whole web design routine.

1.) Make basic layout in Photoshop. Save as jpg.
2.) Import into Fireworks. Chop up image, optimize, and make buttons (where applicable).
3.) Export as HTML with images in sub-folder.
4.) Open with Dreamweaver and go nuts.

i used to use fireworks to create web graphics.. and gif animation.. i hate adobe photoshop because i cannot directly select the object.. the adobe cs and cs2 cannot run on my computer because of unexpected error.. but since photoshop cs3, i have to leave fireworks.. but still have fireworks cs3 installed.. but nearly never opened it..

One of my good friends actually refuses to usa AI because he's an ex-Macromedia fan boy(angry about the merging of Macro and Adobe) and you know, he can create pretty much same things as I create in PS or AI. And you know what they say its not about the tools.

I use it once in a while for web projects. It's handy for making drop-down menus.
