Get the PMS code the easy way!

I found a easy way to get the Pantone matching system codes easier. When you made a color in RGB or CMYK but you don't want to search the color in the giant list or the PMS swatch you can easily use Photoshop.

Somehow this feature is only avaible in Photoshop and not in Illustrator or Indesign.

Go to Color picker select the part with that color or type in the RGB, CMYK or the internet code. And then click the Color Libraries button and it will show the closest matching PMS code.

Isn't it easy? How ever its the closest and not match it totally perfect though. You often see it a little bit different a tone lighter or darker.

Not sure about previous versions of Illustrator, but in CS3 you can use the color guide for the same purpose. When you go to the Color Guide panel, there's a small button on the bottom left which opens a menu filled with lots of different swatch libraries. One of the menu options is "Color Books", which includes Pantone. Once you choose a color book, Illustrator shows you the closest match

Hmmm...where is that? I don't see anything like that in CS.

Just curious b/c that sounds pretty useful.

Yes; I think you're right. I just looked on the Adobe site and it looks like it's part of the "Live Color" new feature.

That's super interesting though; I'm upgrading to CS3 very soon and that tool would be very useful.

So, you're upgrading just for that feature ?

    Just joking...
