Well if you want your designs to look like everyone else that is using "free images" then yes. Personally I prefer to make my own for my work but if times are tight and the project only calls of a couple of hours to concept then they are good in a pinch.
Just my opinion.

I rather use them as inspiration. Actually it's not very hard to scan or take a picture and vectorize it.
