If you are in drawing people its no problem its you can't there is a solution.

Most just photograph a friend that poses for them and then just draw that shape of that person. And if you don't have any friends that want to pose it could be a problem.

Thats just pen tool and gradient fills ... Well you need to have a photography to get the models out of I think.

    Hi omid020.
I haven't Illustrator installed in this computer, but I can make you a similar Photoshop tutorial. My Mr. Potatoshop CS3 is in spanish language, but you can recognize the tools selected easily.

1.- Take a large picture of someone.

2.- You will use the tool (pen) and the option marked with red.

3.- Use the zoom tool to get all details...

4.- And start making the silhouette. Aditionally, you can low the opacity of the layer to see better what are you doing. To do the silhouette is a large process, so be patient. The amount of details depends on you; you can make a very smooth or very detailed silhouette.

5.- Finally, you will have something like that:

6.- Copy the silhouette and paste on a new document.

7.- Now you can add some vectorial waves and forms created by you or you can use created vectorial graphics from other site to make your tutorial. For this tutorial, I will make two very simple forms.

8.- To resterize a vectorial layer, you must click right on the layer and choose resterize. If you resterize a layer, you can copy it and duplicate, but you will haven't a vectorial layer. If you want another vectorial layer you must use the duplicate layer option. So click and drag the layer to the "New layer" option.

9.- Add more things to the picture.

10.- Now is time to add and change colors. Use similar colors to obtain better results.

11.- Use the gradient tool to blend the colors and forms. If you want to use the gradient tool in a vector layer, you must rasterize first (see the 8 point). Play with the different options for the gradient tool.

12.- Sometimes you will obtain better results using layers with transparency and layer mask like the bright on the sun. I will show you in the final picture the two different results (gradient tools and layers with masks and gradient selections).

And that's all. Off course, this is a quick and very simple tutorial, to create complex illustrations you must spend a lot of time practicing techniques. Enjoy.
    Saludos!

    I missed something:
13.- You can also use the dodge and burn tools to create a contrast with the colors.

14.- I have burned and clarified much this illustration to show you the results.

Why isn't there a sun shape tool in AI yet?

The reason there's not a sun tool shape in AI is because it's easy enough to create a "sun shape tool" on your own.

^^It would be easier if there were a tool, which there will be.

If you want to draw like this, the only thing you need to do is watch every effect or shape you see and then imagine what would you need to do to get a similar. Then practice and try it in diferent ways so you can see, step by step, the better way to do it. Then all you need is put it all together and you are ready.

At least this is the way i learned to use Corel and Illustrator, and it made my work easier.

By the way sorry for the bad english, I'm learning it.

Yup, gotta start learning to use the pen tool. With practice you can get very fast at it. I like to lock down the photo I'm tracing in Illustrator before I start tracing (Ctrl + 2). I also like to have the stroke like a lime green so it contrasts the photo well. And one other tip, try having the opacity of the pic at about 50%. I find that helps seeing where to trace a bit better.
