so for my communication design class we're making a poster for this festival called Make Music New York. its a music festival that takes place on june 21st of every year and 100's of musicians, professional and amateur play on the streets of ny. this is the second year they're doing it and last year they chose a pigeon playing a guitar as their mascot. also, there has to be a space for the musicians to write their band name and time they're playing. i have a few versions, not sure which one works best.

^this was the only version that was critiqued by the man who is running MMNY. he said he likes it but it looks to "bon jovi concertish" and might not appeal to all the musicians. when critiquing other works he said he likes minimalism, abstract images, and simple color palettes, some bright colors

I think you should make the logo with the dove bigger in the posters. Cause its so small in each of the designs. In most of the poster it is not blending in with the rest of the design.

I like the green poster from the second version series. The green is a real attention getting but I like it more because it contrast with the pigeon and makes it stand out more.
Some other things you might want to consider is the way the large guitar is cropped. Right now its squeezed in so tight to the edges, you should either crop it or not. Don't have the little edges of color.

hi, thank you for your prompt responses.. the logo doesn't have to be a major part of the poster, it's just so people who went to the fest last year will recognize the pigeon and guitar in some way.. now that i look at it i agree with you ~v~, i'll definitely try to resolve that

Truth be told I believe the first one is the most satisfying look of them all (mmny6ct2.jpg). I think clean design is the champ - this is the cleanest, most readable one of the bunch for my money. But consider filling out the background, maybe a NYC skyline (cliche but fits)
I agree that you may want to emphasize the pigeon - while it may be an afterthought, familiarity is key. People tend to look twice when its pleasing to the eye and when they see something familiar.
The other versions, I am not too sold on the color schemes, especially the green. I would stick with more earth tones not vibrant and one color that really pops.
Good luck

You should play around with the pigeon concept a bit more.
my idea is to have a flock of pigeons flying in some direction with one highlighted pigeon struggling to carry this electric guitar and follow the others.
here is a really quick example of the layout I had in mind (without the pigeons)
