Hi there, I recently redesigned my design portfolio website. As someone who specializes in design for web and print I wanted to make it evident I can design complex visual sites for the web. I feel the portfolio itself should be a piece.
I took this idea and ran wild with it. I wanted to give everything multi-textured/dimensional quality. I know less is more is a term to live by but I HATE not utilizing the entire browser. I tried to refrain from it being to "dark" in tone - I believe this just has an aged and elegant look to it.
I am in the process of reorganizing the links and other content but I wanted to see what people think/feel about this before I continue on. All comments/criticisms welcomed! Thanks.

I love the colors and the page and content backgrounds. Very nice.
I don't care for the top and side elements. It just looks crowded and forced to me.
This site: http://www.cameronmoll.com/portfolio/ incorporates some of the same feel, but is also very clean (IMO).

Gorgeous so far. I like the juxtaposition of the superhero-like logo with the victorianesque ornamentation. I agree though that both the buttons and the thumbnails look a bit detached in concept and out of place. You could try going in the direction & style of an actual antique theatre to display your work, or go the other way entirely and play more upon the old fashioned superhero theme.
Somehow I'm reminded of Wild Wild West, anyone else?

Beautiful style, and you've more than sufficiently pulled it off..well done!
The content could work, but it seems you've just thrown it in there as such. You have implemented structure to a degree, but not enough. I've found that a proper structure takes you half way..so try introducing maybe a proper title, thumbnail section and maybe add a box similar in style to the design itself around the preview box? I don't know..
But I love the graphic detail.
