Today, we’re going to be delivering a very special article. It’s a national holiday here in the United States, and this has us thinking about patriotic designs. We’re very interested in all of the art that emerges during this time of the year, and if you’re itching to create some red, white and blue works of your own, you’ve come to the right place!

  1. Go to the Roots: This is the absolute best time of the year to be vintage. Dig deep into the annals of your country’s history. Look for awesome posters from the days gone by, and then dig even deeper. Think about the “Keep Calm and Carry On” posters that are all the rage now. They weren’t even printed during the war, but they’re awesome as far as design aesthetics are concerned. Find a golden oldie like this, and use it to create something new and exciting.
  2. Use Those Colors Creatively! One of the next best things you can do is to add a new twist to your flag’s colors. Don’t just splatter them up in a very bright hue without any care or attention! Try to add some paint splotches, some slightly off hues, or combine them in ways that you’ve not seen before. Now is the time to take what is yours to be proud of and to create something wholly original out of it. When in doubt, think outside the box and start spraying paint.
  3. Use Those Slogans: Every country has its own unique idioms (“Keep your pecker up!”). You can use these local expressions to create really cool pieces of design. Add a good old “Bob’s your uncle!” to a poster and we guarantee you’ll get a visceral reaction from the audience. And besides, it’s always fun to use our own culture in our work.
  4. Most importantly, have fun doing what you’re doing! This is a time to enjoy being who you are and where you’re from. Don’t forget that, and be sure to have as much fun as possible creating your seasonally patriotic designs.
